With the mild Southern California winter in the rearview mirror, spring welcomes traditions and opportunities to experience renewal. By delving into spring cleaning, getting rid of unwanted items, and discovering productive activities, we can make sure this spring will benefit our lives and the people who live around us.
Time for a Deep Cleaning
In a 2020 survey, 78 percent of respondents said they make spring cleaning an annual event. More than sweeping up the kitchen or doing a load of laundry, spring cleaning is the immersive and rewarding process of giving your living space a deep, long-overdue cleanse. Spring cleaning is our excuse to go the extra mile to remove dust, refresh surfaces, scour windows, polish brightwork, eliminate grease, and leave every room smelling fresh and sanitized. The agreeable weather makes it the perfect opportunity to open windows and doors to usher in an invigorating crosswind.
Declutter
While you are busy deep cleaning your living space, you will notice a growing stack of items that have become less than necessary in your life. Instead of returning them to shelves, drawers, and closets, consider parting ways with any unwanted clutter. Instead of taking them to the trash, look for opportunities to donate the times to local churches or Goodwill . You can even start to build a vacation fund by advertising the items for sale on Craigslist, which receives a staggering 50 billion page views every month.
A Family Effort
There is an old saying: “Cleaning up with children around is like shoveling during a blizzard.” As accurate as that may be, getting the family together to help with spring cleaning chores is a valuable annual pastime. While you handle the bigger jobs, don’t be afraid to assign fitting tasks to little helpers so they can share in your pride of a job well done. Sure, you may have to double back to put the finishing touches on their assignments; in the long run, though, you’ll instill them with quality character traits and pride.
This year, make it a goal to start a new spring season tradition. By doing your spring cleaning, removing old and unused clutter, and working as a family, you will experience a spirit of renewal and cleanliness in your home and your life.
